
Today, Sun hit the market with long awaited news. The Java platform is now released open source and under GPL lisence. According to a statement (in Finnish) by Sun representative the contribution consists of approximately 7 million lines of source code. This is one of the biggest donations ever made by a commercial company to the open source community. The initial release includes the source code of Java Standard Edition (SE) and Micro Edition (ME).
